Analysis of Motion Effects of Mobile Platform in Underwater Near-field Positioning

This paper analyzes the motion effect of moving platform on TDOA and two-way TOA measurements in a near-field, highly maneuverable scenario to explain the necessity of corrected distance measurements for localization of underwater targets. The article quantitatively describes the unknown time deviation of TDOA and two-way TOA measurements by establishing the relationship between known parameters, including the heading and speed of the observation platform and the distance measurements under the influence of motion effects to improve the positioning accuracy of underwater targets. The article concludes with an example of target localization using TDOA to express the necessity of correcting the motion effects on the distance measurements, especially in scenarios where the relative motion of the target and moving observation platform is obvious.
