A vibration isolator for improving turbulence observation performances of underwater glider

Underwater glider (UG) is an ideal platform for turbulence measurements, but the vibration inside the UG interferes with turbulence measurement. In order to reduce the influence of vibration on turbulence measurement, a vibration isolator (VI) is designed in this paper. To determine the design requirements of the VI, the frequency range that affects the estimating of dissipation rate is analyzed, and the vibration of the main action of the UG is tested. The VI is designed to be installed on the UG and applied in the sea trial. The sea trial shows that the VI can reduce the vibration at the frequency of 16Hz~90Hz and reduce the vibration within the frequency range of the dissipation rate estimate.
