Experimental Demonstration of Depth-dependent Acoustic Detection Performance by Underwater Gliders

Underwater acoustic propagation can lead to a depth-dependent detection performance of sonar systems. The 2020 South China Sea Experiment was conducted for an experimental demonstration of these characteristics by underwater gliders. Detection performance is analyzed using the acoustic data, and simulations with the environmental data collected from the experiment are performed to calculate the corresponding transmission loss and give a performance prediction as well. The two parts of results show rough consistency and confirm the acoustic depth-dependent detection performance characteristics.
