Smart Grid Case Studies

This chapter deals with various smart grid case studies – deployments, challenges, successes, and learning. We will get familiar with the future smart grid model, learn about various smart grid use cases, and study the risks that come with increased “smartness” in the grid. The metrics and procedures for planning smart grid projects was discussed, following a detailed look at two pivotal cybersecurity events – the Stuxnet attack and the Ukraine attack. A detailed description of these events was provided, with a discussion on mitigation mechanisms that are deployed in the smart grid that addresses these threats.
