Automation for Vehicle Communication Diagnostics

By supplying the system’s operations and the numerous features that are already integrated into them, ECUs play a significant role in contemporary car electronics. The software is now required to offer functional solutions in addition to safety and diagnostic services, which has increased its complexity as a result of the paradigm shift toward ECU technology. To assess software behavior in light of increased complexity, it is now crucial to improve testing practices. The method for automated software testing of CAN-based devices is provided in this work utilizing an automation tool called ECU-TEST in order to confirm that CAN-based systems meet their functional and diagnostic requirements in a hardware-in-loop environment. One of our main goals in automating the testing process is continuous testing, which involves running tests repeatedly for different software and track which test cases are succeeding or failing for a cert. The goal of this paper is to create a standard database in INCA so that all possible methods of communication from different projects can be stored. The ECU-TEST utility allows full control over the system’s data flow. ECU-TEST is in charge of feeding the device under test with inputs, recording the behaviour that results from those inputs, and processing this data to deliver. With the help of this automation setup, software testing for a power train unit could now be finished in just one hour as opposed to the previous requirement of four. This approach has dramatically decreased testing time while also ensuring the delivery of higher-quality software.
