Switching techniques for capacitor arrays in Digital to Analog Converters

Data converters like ADCs and DACs have many uses in fields like data collecting, signal processing, biomedical instrumentation, and more. High-speed, medium-resolution applications are ideal for SAR Analog-to-Digital converters. Current efforts to reduce SAR ADC power consumption have been the subject of extensive study. In SAR ADCs, capacitor DACs absorb the majority of the total power during capacitor switching. This paper provides a framework for future research into the use of switching strategies to develop energy-efficient Digital to analogue converters for medium to high resolution applications by categorising existing switching techniques for capacitor arrays in D/A converters.
