Computational Investigation of Engine Exhaust Manifold with Different Alternative Fuels By Using CFD

Exhaust manifolds play a vital role in improving the performance of an Internal Combustion (IC) engine and the design of exhaust manifolds is crucial for its functioning. In this article, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis is carried out to determine the effect of velocity, temperature, and back pressure on the overall (volumetric) efficiency of the exhaust manifolds. Here two different designs of exhaust manifolds are compared for the study. The study is also extended to understand the influence of different fuels like LPG, Alcohol, and Gasoline on the overall efficiency. The results are then compared to determine the best design of exhaust manifolds. The CFD analysis is carried out using ANSYS software and FUSION 360 software. Low pressure and velocity were obtained for gasoline fuel whereas high-pressure values were obtained for type A manifold which determines its performance and efficiency higher than type B manifold.
