Design of a P. Vannamei White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) Detection System Utilizing YOLOv5n

Locally produced shrimp are in high demand in the Philippine market, accounting for over 90% of consumption. However, the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV), a disease that can kill many Penaeus Vannamei shrimps within three to ten days after infection, has a substantial influence on the market. The existing manual approaches for identifying WSSV are inefficient and time-consuming. This research suggested an object detection model based on YOLOv5 for WSSV detection systems. The following metrics are utilized to evaluate the proposed YOLOv5n model’s performance compared to YOLOv5m and YOLOv5s:F1 score, inference time, mean average precision (mAP), precision, and recall. Regarding detecting shrimp WSSV, the YOLOv5n model outperformed other models. Raspberry Pi successfully implemented the intended YOLOv5n model for the WSSV detection system.
