A Flexible Metamaterial Based on Split-Ring Resonator Design

A serpentine-formed Split-Ring Resonator (SRR) Metamaterial (MTM) with negative permeability is presented in this study, together with geometry deformation from regular SRR, meander-lined Four-Split-Ring Resonator (FSRR) to serpentine FSRR. The proposed FSRR geometry presents

-Negative (MNG) metamaterial characteristics. The proposed serpentine FSRR metamaterial shows resonance at 2.27 GHz, 3.52 GHz, and 7.58 GHz frequency ranges, covering S-band and C-band in terms of z-axis wave propagation. It also exhibits the characteristic of an MNG metamaterial there. In the basic regular construction, the unit cell was formed by two opposed split rings, the meander-lined FSRR deconstructed each mesh by square-shaped units, and the serpentine-formed FSRR replaced meshes with serpentine geometries to improve the stretchability. The dimension of the proposed metamaterial is

, and a high effective medium ratio (EMR) value of 11.01 was found from it. The simulation result is presented, where the presented serpentine metamaterial provides a higher EMR value under the same MTM unit cell length while improving the device's flexibility.
