Facile Use of In-Situ Doped Onion-Like Carbon Nanoparticles for Detecting Toluene at Room Temperature

This study report on the use of nitrogen doped onion-like carbon/manganese oxide for the detection of toluene using chemiresistive gas sensor. The sensitivity towards toluene was found as S.S8xl0-
⁴
ppm-1 with the limit of detection of 0.4 ppm. Moreover, the dynamic characterization showed that the response and recovery time towards toluene detection was 216s and 80s respectively. This suggested that different carbon nanoparticles-based composites can be used with various shaped metal oxide nanoparticles to improve the detection of toluene by inexpensive, user-friendly and omni-sized electrochemical sensing device.
