Vehicle Cornering Stability Analysis of Aerodynamic Kit Based on Active Tilting Rear Wing

To solve the problem that most aerodynamic kits can only increasing vertical aerodynamic force, which still remain unbalanced inner and outer tire load while cornering, this paper proposes an active aerodynamic kit based on the tilting rear wing. It can not only reduce the unbalanced tire load, but also use part of the aerodynamic forces and moments to increase cornering performance and reduce vehicle body roll. First, a basic model of the four-door sedan platform is built and its external flow field analysis is finished. Second, based on the fluid analysis of the sedan, an active tilting rear wing aerodynamic kit is designed. Under various angle of attack and tilt of the rear wing, the fluid analysis of the sedan with the aerodynamic kit is done. Then, based on the simulation data, the control strategy is established and the mathematical model is built. Finally, co-simulations are performed to analyze the effect of the aerodynamic kit. The results prove that by providing inclined aerodynamic downforce towards the inner side of the vehicle, the active tilting rear wing can reduce the body roll angle and the unbalanced tire loads, thus improve a vehicle's stability while cornering.
