Experimental Analysis of the Decoupled PWM Influence on the Open-End Winding Induction Machine

In modern electric traction systems, dual inverter fed open-end winding induction motors (DI-OEWIM) present a promising solution to improve their performance. The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of the decoupled PWM strategy on the performance of DI-OEWIM. The principle of this study is to create different phase shifts on the voltages output of one of the inverters using the decoupled PWM strategy, and then evaluate the performance of the system. This strategy was implemented experimentally on a dSPACE 1104 board and applied to a 1.5 kW motor. The responses of the common-mode voltage (CMV), zero sequence voltage (ZSV), THDs and speed clearly show an improvement in the dynamic and steady-state performance of the motor drive.
