Simulation of electrical field and potential on multilayer superhydrophobic insulation with water drops under DC voltage

The study of the electrical performance of an insulator in the laboratory requires a lot of time and energy. For this reason, a simulation method using COMSOL Multiphasic software has been developed to facilitate this task. This paper presents simulation results of the electric field and potential distribution of insulating with multilayers of superhydrophobic surface, with the presence of water droplets. The objective of this work is to predict the movement of expulsion of water drops outside four-layer superhydrophobic insulation, with variable permittivity degree of solid insulating cover and their effect on the distribution of the field and electric potential. In addition, a comparison between the performance of superhydrophobic single-layer insulation with that of multi-layers is carried out. The simulation results show that the intensity of the electric field on the insulation is greatly influenced by the variation in the number of water drops deposited on the superhydrophobic insulation, as well as, by the value of the relative permittivity of the cover. On the other hand, the addition of other superhydrophobic layers has a slight influence on the distribution of the electric field.
