Model Selection and Performance Research of Composite Cross-arm for the Long-Span Distribution Line Application

The composite cross-arm has the excellent properties of composite materials, as well as a series of outstanding performances. At present, most of the 10kV composite cross-arm in the distribution network are standardized based on the 80m line span. In some mountainous areas, it is found that due to the changeable terrain, frequent lightning strike failures and bird damage failures, the existing design conditions do not meet the application requirements of the region, the line span is greater than 80m. In this paper, the wire selection and load calculation of typical long-span of distribution lines are carried out, a composite cross-arm type suitable for large-span lines is proposed. On this basis, the mechanical and electrical performance simulation verification of composite cross-arm is carried out, an optimization scheme that can significantly reduce the maximum stress of the core is also proposed, and conclusions and key points for future research are given to improve the reliability of power distribution in mountainous areas and other areas where large-span lines are used.
