Effect of Iron Core Structure on the Characteristics of Axial Magnetic Field for Large-diameter Cup-shaped Contact

The axial magnetic field (AMF) has a significant contribution to the controlling of a high-current vacuum arc. The objective of this paper is to investigate the AMF characteristics of large-diameter cup-shaped contact with the iron core structure. In this paper, the simulation model of a large-diameter cup-shaped was built, and the AMF characteristics were studied based on finite element simulation. Through the simulation of AMF distribution on the intermediate plane of the contact gap, the effect of the iron core on the AMF characteristics was analyzed and discussed. In order to improve the AMF characteristic of the contact gap, the structure parameters of the iron core (a, b, c, d) were investigated. The results show that the increase of contact diameter and contact gap leads to a significant decrease in the AMF flux density on the contact gap, respectively. And it is not conducive to control the vacuum arc. The structure parameters of the iron core were closely related to the AMF flux density of the contact gap.
