Synchronization of Multi Converters in Future Power Systems

Synchronous operation of multi-converters is a necessary condition in the future power system dominated by converter interfaced generation. In this paper, three synchronization schemes are proposed: natural synchronization, power sharing based synchronization and fixed power based synchronization. The power sharing based self-synchronization is an improved vector-controlled power-synchronization control. The study system is constructed based on the modified IEEE WSCC system where all synchronous generators have been replaced by distributed VSCs. Load variation and generation variation are tested to validate the proposed synchronization mechanism and the time-domain simulation results have verified the effectiveness.
