A Review: Preparation of Biodiesel and Its Influence on the Performance of Marine Diesel Engines

With increasing demand for fossil fuels and environmental awareness around the world, as well as tougher emissions regulations, renewable and environmentally friendly biodiesel is seen as an ideal alternative fuel. In this review, the preparation process, advantages and sources of the first, second generation biodiesel, as well as their effects on the combustion characteristics, and emission characteristics of Marine diesel engines are studied. The study found that the physical of biodiesel and petrochemical diesel are similar, but the chemical composition is different. Using biodiesel has a good prospect, which can meet the fuel demand of Marine diesel engine and reduce the emission content.
