Development of GPU-Based Efficient Simulation Module of Wind Farm

The dynamic simulation of the wind farm is important for the construction of a modern renewable energy system. However, for the multi-coupled complex wind farm model, the current wind farm simulation tool is not high efficient enough. Towards this problem, this paper proposed a GPU-based accelerated wind farm simulation module based on FAST.Farm. It focuses on parallelized optimizing the most time-consuming procedure over the calculation. This paper presents the parallelized algorithms for both the most time-consuming procedures (i.e., the gridded wind speed data traversing procedure and the wake plane traversing procedure). Also, the parallelized program for the two procedures is developed based on CUDA. The developed module is verified using a wind farm with 9 wind turbines in the case study. The result shows that its simulation efficiency is significantly improved compared with FAST.Farm, whose speedup has reached 237. Also, the calculation accuracy of the proposed module is guaranteed.
