Improved Grid State Identification Algorithms Using Voltage Measurements for Underdetermined Low Voltage Grids

The changes in electrical distribution grids caused by the increasing amount of renewable energy, requires new technological advancements to handle. Smart Grid Systems are one promising solution to the problem. They typically consist of two main functions: the Grid State Identification Algorithm and the Control Algorithm. Grid State Identification Algorithms calculate missing state variables in underdetermined low voltage electrical grids that are used for control operations. To improve grid state identification algorithms efficiently, a simulation benchmark that assesses different performance indicators is introduced in this paper. The presentation of concept and implementation of three approaches to improve state variable deviations resulting from the Grid State Identification, by using voltage magnitude measurements, is the main purpose of this paper. The three approaches are presented and discussed. Lastly, the new approaches are validated in the benchmarking environment.
