Matlab-Simulink Based Comparative Simulations of Different Neuron Models

Different types of neuron models have been developed using various mathematical equations to understand how the brain works. In this study, Hodgkin-Huxley, Morris- Lecar, Adaptive Exponential Integrate Fire, Hindmarsh-Rose and Izhikevich spiking neuron models, which are widely used in the literature, were compared in Simulink environment. As a result of the comparisons, two neuron model categories were created. These categories are (Hodgkin-Huxley Morris-Lecar) and (Adaptive Exponential Integrate Fire, Hindmarsh Rose and Izhikevich) neuron models categories. The first created category neuron models were compared in terms of the formation of intracellular and extracellular ion densities on Action Potentials. In the second category, neuron models were compared in terms of which neuronal behaviors seen in the cerebral cortex could produce and which ones could not.
