Impact of the Electric Vehicle Sector’s Development on Romania’s National Power System

In the quest for achieving climate neutrality the development of the electric vehicle (EV) sector plays a significant role. While in Europe EV adoption is well encouraged by various political decisions, the transition toward electric mobility encounters numerous challenges. Among these challenges, the impact of the development of this sector on the national power systems is yet to be evaluated. In this context, this paper aims to analyze the impact of the EV sector development in Romania, considering the prognosis for 2030, on the national power system, in terms of power load increase and the total amount of electricity required. The analysis was conducted considering several scenarios regarding the charging regimes of the EV batteries, and the number of charges per week. While there are obviously some uncertainties about how things will look in 2030, the results of this study can offer some valuable insights into the potential measures that must be considered to sustain the development of the EV sector.
