Integration of Organic Rankine Cycle to an Aeolic System for Continuous Generation of Electric Energy

The study focuses on determining the technical and economic feasibility of an integrated system based on a cascading ORC cycle with Ammonia and Methanol as working fluids, and with a heating source from solar energy. A wind farm of 10 wind turbines is interconnected to this, as well as a compressed air storage and expansion system to cover the energy demand when there is low or no solar irradiation. A first-level analysis is carried out to demonstrate the viability of the proposal, evaluating it at the environmental conditions of ambient temperature, altitude, solar irradiation and historical wind speed of the State of Guanajuato. Electrical power, cycle efficiency, net present value, internal rate of return and leveled energy value are the parameters of interest. The results show that the system is capable of generating up to 110 kW of energy under the maximum conditions of the state, allowing to have continuously up to 50 kW during the day and 15 kW at night. In addition, it is shown that the plant operating under standard conditions presents financial viability.
