Development of a Communication Platform through Embedded Systems for Telecontrol of Dynamic Systems

This paper presents the implementation of a wireless communication scheme that makes use of embedded systems such as microcontrollers, through which data acquisition and telecontrol of an emulated first-order dynamic system using analog electronics is performed as a case study. PIC-type microcontrollers, which act as nodes in the communication system. In this sense, the node that initiates the communication (server) is connected through an analog to digital converter to the dynamic system, and the remote node receives the information, which in turn sends it back, forming a feedback system. This communication system is affected by inactivity times (time delays) that are inherent to the transmission and reception of information. Therefore, to deal with the effects of these inactivity times and to be able to modify the establishment times of the emulated dynamic system, proportional-integral-derivative (PID) type digital controllers are implemented in the client node. For the tuning of the digital controllers reported in this work, the inactivity times are modeled as time delays using a first-order Padé approximation.
