Development of a Pure Sine Wave Current Inverter with IoT Monitoring

Global blackouts are more frequent as energy resources get limited due to political restrictions and transmission lines collapse due to increasing demand and extreme weathers. These factors also rise the cost of electric bills. Alternatives like solar radiation can be used to obtain direct energy in facilities for electric bill savings and storage for blackouts, which requires power inverters to convert DC from panels to AC. Many types of inverters that are offered in the market have low efficiency, do not achieve the advertised power and output square or modified AC signals that produce harmonics which cause a lot of interference and can damage electrical appliances. This research focuses on the design and development of a 12VDC to 220AC pure sine wave inverter with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), using the hierarchical methodology for the selection of the topologies, processes and components. The comparison of different filters was made to achieve a 5% THD. For the control of the board an EGS002 module was used, which integrates functions of voltage, current and temperature protection. Monitoring in real time of the inverter via IOT was implemented through a Wi-fi module and ArduinoCloud services. To verify the stability and correct operation of the inverter, different tests were made with inductive and resistive loads to verify the stability and correct operation of the inverter. Finally the results were analyzed with Tektronix oscilloscope.
