Advanced Multi-layer Depth Video Coding Method in VVC

As the immersive video contents market expands, research on immersive video compression and transmission is also expanding. By this purpose, efficient encoding methods for depth videos, which is essential for intermediate view synthesis, is being considered. Many researches on this has been reported, and among them, method of encoding depth video through the multi-layer encoding of the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard has been reported. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer-based depth video encoding improvement method that can achieve better coding efficiency. Experimental results show that there is 2.92% BD-rate saving on average compared with VVC multi-layer coding.
