PFC Converter with Output – Based Feedback Adjustment for Reduced Output Disturbance During Step Load

Several methods used for improving the transient response of a PFC converter involves modification of its inherent control loop. This study proposed an output-based method for the reduction of output disturbance during step loading, an approach that is independent from its inherent control. Through SIMPLIS simulation, the PFC converter was modelled first, then its compensator was designed to meet the stability requirement, and lastly, the proposed method was designed and modelled with its two main blocks, the load detection block, and the feedback voltage manipulation block. Through simulation results, the output undershoot is reduced by about 12.15% at worst input condition (180VAC) and during 10%-100% step load disturbance. Also, the output overshoot is reduced by about 7.92% at worst input condition (180VAC) and during 100% to 10% step load disturbance. The proposed method is also tested at several input conditions and output disturbances.
