Analysis of Parameters Affecting the Unconfined Compression Strength of Sand-Cement Mixtures

The stabilization of sand with cement for the use of improved subgrade layer, presents great advantages to achieve better properties of the base soil, with very affordable materials within the field of engineering, and that presents a decrease in pavement thickness at the time of design and therefore, an optimization of costs. The objective of the research was to analyze the influence of parameters such as cement content, porosity and the voids/cement ratio in the evaluation of the compressive strength of a cemented sand, using two states or wet and dry conditions. Therefore, unconfined compression tests were carried out on specimens with cement percentages between 3 and 11%. The correlations obtained demonstrated the influence of the cement parameter and the void/cement ratio on the strength results of cement-stabilized sand.
