Managing Multicloud Workloads

Managing the deployment and operation of applications and other workloads is critical for meeting customer expectations for availability and performance of the software tools they depend on every day. This chapter discusses the nature of cloud applications and workloads, and the challenges and approaches for managing workloads in multicloud environments. Typical batch workloads perform repetitive tasks such as backups and process large volumes of data. Public cloud security has become as trustworthy as on‐premises security, so cost‐benefit analysis may recommend that complex transactional workloads are deployed to a public cloud. High performance workloads are well suited for specialized public clouds optimized for performance. Application programming interfaces (APIs) enable a software product or service to work with another product or service. Likewise, in multicloud workload management, companies offer capabilities to create customizable templates that allow developers to make allowances for the differences in APIs and thus are able to deploy and migrate workloads.
