Blending NOC and SOC

Any delay in identifying, responding to, and mitigating the problem increases risks and leads to still more disruption. These costly delays are more likely in entities where the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Security Operations Center (SOC) are completely separate with limited visibility into the other's world. When teams remain siloed, inefficiencies and errors slow effective incident response and hamper overall network and security operations. To understand how to avoid mistakes and successfully knit NOC and SOC capabilities together, we must understand the differences between the mindset of each team. In ongoing operations and during disruptive incidents, NOC and SOC, by necessity, focus on different issues. In companies where the NOC and SOC are siloed, the people and change management issues surrounding this merger must be addressed. NOC and SOC can work well together if leadership and teams exercise appropriate delineation of responsibilities, adopt good technology, and establish sound policies.
