Localization Technique using Bluetooth

This paper suggests a distance estimation technique between a BLE anchor and a smartphone device using ReceivedSignal Strength Indicator (RSSI). RSSI fluctuates due to obstacles, environment, etc. so, to smooth RSSI we have applied noise filter models like Simple Moving Average filter (SMA), Recursive Average, and Kalman Filter to improve the accuracy before the distance calculation. Initially, we performed distance calculations using logarithmic distance equations then after experimenting with curve fitting the accuracy has beenimproved. We have implemented the system using a BLE anchor and by distance estimation we can actuate the gate of theconstruction site. Using curve fitting 0.1m ∼1.5m distance error has been observed in SMA calculation and it is improved by using the Kalman filter.
