A 5G/LTE Monitoring System to Mitigate Catastrophic Damage

Climate change might cause a serious risk on tele-communication systems. Especially, strong winds such as a typhoon cannot only lead to faults to numerous Radio Units (RUs), but also power failures of Digital Units (DUs) inside a central office sometimes. In meteorology, a typhoon over category 3 level is considered to cause huge destruction. Reliable DU/RU operation in 5 G/L TE mobile systems can be vulnerable to unpredictable disasters by typhoons. In this paper, we propose a 5G/L TE monitoring system to mitigate such damage. Based on our proprietary extraction and storage algorithm, we design a visualization tool for providing an alarm threshold based normal DU/RU operation rate. Thus, summarized alarm statistics can be distributed to Network Operation Center (NOC) engineers in a real-time manner, and then they can reduce workloads to deal with catastrophic damage.
