Archimedes Spiral Antenna for the Microwave Hyperthermia Application

The aim of this manuscript is to design and analyse a compact sized focussed archimedean spiral micro strip antenna (ASMPA) with suitable SAR values for hyperthermia (HT) applications. The proposed ASMPA is design to resonate at 2.5 GHz frequency range and covers the bandwidth from 2.37 to 2.63 GHz with peak gain of 3.1 dB and VSWR < 2. The proposed antenna consists of single layer of FR-4 with optimized dimension of 38×38×1.64 mm
³
with defected ground surface (DGS). The single spiral shaped patch is imprinted on the front side of the substrate of FR-4. The proposed antenna is design and simulated in CST Microwave version 19. Three-layered (skin, muscle and fat) human mimic is designed for SAR and temperature analysis of the phantom when exposed by ASMPA. The SAR and temperature rise over the cancerous affect area of bio mimic is 8 W/Kg and 42 °C respectively. Thus specific SAR and temperature > 41 °C make the proposed ASMPA a suitable choice for the treatment of superficial skin cancer using HT application.
