Analysis, Design & PCB Optimization of a DC Bus Planar CM Inductor to Reduce EMI in SiC Converters

An optimized Printed Circuit Board (PCB) based planar Common Mode (CM) inductor analysis and design is proposed that achieves high attenuation for Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) reduction in Silicon Carbide (SiC) Adjustable Speed Drives (ASD). Proposed design is evaluated with different core materials and CM noise attenuation is analyzed in conducted and radiated emission spectrums. Experimental results are presented to confirm effectiveness of the proposed planar CM inductor design in SiC ASD applications.
