Real World Snapshot of Trends in IoT Device and Protocol Deployment: IEEE CNS 22 Poster

MQTT, CoAP, and AMQP are among the most popular and widely used IoT protocols in today's Internet. The goal of our research was to examine real-world usage of the three protocols and discover potential trends and outliers. The preliminary results obtained from a Shodan-derived dataset show an interesting pattern in geographic and time-wise distribution of real-world IoT devices deploying the three protocols. The results also reveal some evident security challenges pertaining to these devices.
