3D TFSI FEA Simulation and Analysis of Thermodynamic Characteristics of a Gas-pressurized Hydraulic Shock Absorber

A three-dimensional thermal-fluid-structure interaction (TFSI) finite-element analysis (FEA) model with ALE liquid-structure coupling and bidirectional thermal coupling of a gas-pressured hydraulic shock absorber is constructed. Synchronous-iterative TFSI method combining with moving mesh control method is utilized to calculate the dynamic responses of the damper system under dynamic excitation, and the results are partially verified experimentally. The results show that the temperature distribution of the flow field in the shock absorber is uneven, and affected by the flow’s jet direction and velocity distribution. After the first excitation cycle, the temperature rise rate of the oil at the end of the extension chamber and the compression chamber is basically the same. The temperature rise rate of the main piston and the valve plates are faster than the cylinder’s. The maximum temperature value of the oil is higher than the structure’s. There is a strong heat exchange between the oil and the structure during the working process of the hydraulic shock absorber.
