Performance evaluation of 5G NR sidelink for V2X scenarios

Vehicular communication and autonomous driving are currently very important research topics. As a result; the study of the V2X communication became essential. In this paper we have started by briefly introducing V2X and the new radio 5G sidelink, then we have performed computer simulations in order to study the performance of the V2X, in terms of data rate, packet error rate and latency. The impact of the transmitted power and distance, between the transmitter and receiver, on those performance indicators is the focus of this study. Particularly the effect of the transmitted power; since power consumption and energy efficiency are rather important topics for current and future communication paradigm, and because of the existence of the trade off between performance and power consumption. From the results it can be seen that for V2X channel low power can be used as long as the distance between the transmitter device and the receiver device is lower than 100 m, which is feasible for scenarios such as vehicle to vehicle communication.
