E-KTP based Alternative Ignition System on Motorcycles using an ATMega328 Microcontroller

Motorcycles are two-wheeled vehicles that are used as a daily transportation. the motorcycle requires an ignition key to activate the electrical system and engine of the motorcycle. The ignition works by inserting the key into the slot positioning the motorcycle in the lock position, on or off conditions. Motorcycles are also equipped with security features such as handlebar locks to prevent theft activity. Motorcycle driver often experience the occurrence of losing or damaging the motorcycle keys. Based on the problem, the research was designed to build the ignition system based on RFID technology that has been applied to e-KTP as user identification rather than conventional ignition. The system uses ATMega328 microcontroller on the Arduino UNO as the control center connected to the RC522 RFID reader module as the input that functions is to read identification tags on e-KTP. A solenoid lock is used rather than existing handlebar key. Arduino IDE software used to insert commands into the Arduino UNO for reading RFID tags, to control relays and solenoid locks. The results of the test showed that the system is able to read RFID tags and activating the electricity and the engine from the motorcycle, with the average RFID reading response of 0.6 seconds, effective time for starting the motorcycle. The Solenoid lock that serves as a handlebar keeping the existence of the safety features that previously existed on the motorcycle.
