Corrosion Properties of Nanostructured Multilayer [(Cu-Zn)1/(Cu-Zn)2]n Coatings

The corrosion properties of nanostructured multilayer [(Cu-Zn)1/(Cu-Zn)2]n coatings deposited from a pyrophosphate-citrate electrolyte by a two-pulse galvanostatic mode are considered. It is shown that the coatings are sacrificial in comparison with mild steel in 3.5 % N aCI environment. The multilayer [(Cu-Zn)1/(Cu-Zn)2]n coating formed from (Cu-Zn)1 alloy layers with a thickness of 9 nm and (Cu-Zn)2 alloy layers with a thickness of 27 nm is characterized by an intermediate value of the stationary potential and polarization resistance as compared with single-layer alloy films. Corrosion current of steel samples with multilayer coatings is lower than corrosion current of samples with single-layer alloy films and an order of magnitude lower than the corrosion rate of uncoated steel samples.
