Ecosystem Development To Enable Adoption of Electric Machinery In Agriculture

India is heavily dependent upon imported crude oil for its energy requirement. This oil gets refined into various petroleum products such as petrol and diesel etc. Almost all sectors depend upon these petroleum products to run their operations. Agriculture sector is a major sector of Indian economy and significant consumer of petroleum products. Indian farmers are parting ways from traditional farming practices and embracing new methods and tool to perform farming activities. Tractor is one of the most used equipment by Indian farmers to perform activities such as ploughing, cultivating, seeding, spraying, and harvesting. Tractors available in India mainly range from 35 HP to 70 HP, and all tractors run on diesel. Currently agriculture sector has 13% share in diesel consumption. Demand of diesel in agriculture sector is increasing year on year due to rising use of Tractor. Therefore, it is critical to provide alternate energy solution to agriculture sector and make it less dependent on petroleum products. This paper proposes Ecosystem development to reduce dependency on Diesel in agriculture sector by increasing electrification. The paper utilizes system engineering principle and methods to define issues and propose solutions for Ecosystem development with holistic approach.
