Networking Communication of UAV Nests for Transmission Line Relay Patrol Based on OPGW

The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) nest installed on the overhead line tower is an innovation to realize the relay patrol of UAV. In order to tranfer massive collected data fast, stably, safely and reliably, a communication network based on OPGW is designed. The network is distributed on a 32km HVAC overhead line, with 7 optical fiber access points connected to 7 nests. Based on the OPGW network, data of video, UAV status and nest status upload to the remote data server with security protection such as hardware tamper proof, identity authentication, access control, communication encryption and access isolation. In the application, it is found that the automatic relay patrol mode supported by the UAV nests can shorten the operation time from 3 days to half an hour by 7 UAVs or 10 hours by 1 UAVs compared with the traditional manual delivery-recovery mode.
