A Fault Line Selection Method for Small Current Grounding Systems Based on Zero-Mode Transient Information

Aiming at the problems that the result of grounding line selection is unsatisfactory and the reliability is difficult to make quantitative analysis of fault line identification method for distribution with neutral point grounding through the arc extinguishing coil, a fault line selection method based on zero-mode transient information with modified ensemble empirical mode decomposition is proposed. Firstly, this paper utilized zero-mode transient information to extract the fault information, because of the direction of fault line is in the opposite to the non-fault line during a fault grounding transient. Then, the extracted signals were decomposed by MEEMD and HHT transformation. Lastly, the simulation and analysis in PSCAD and MATLAB illustrated that the proposed method can exactly identify fault line for small current grounding systems and it has higher reliability and sensitivity.
