Wigner Dynamics of Electron Quantum Superposition States in a Confined and Opened Quantum Dot

Wigner function approaches provide a unique ability to investigate the dynamics of electron quantum superposition states. Such states are essential to many solid-state nanotechnologies, e.g., coherent single-electron sources. Here, we study the coherent dynamics of an electron captured by a quantum dot using one-dimensional Wigner quantum transport simulations, revealing the manifesting oscillations in the probability density. We verify our solution with a Schrödinger solution to establish a frame of reference. In addition, we study the electron ejection process from the quantum dot into a quantum channel. The time-dependent Wigner solution provides us with the ability to analyze the quantum evolution in terms of phase space and concepts of classical mechanics. Our results show a clear correlation between barrier ejection timing and shape of the channel-injected, superposed states.
