Android-Based Personalized Shopping Assistant with Navigation and Augmented Reality Support

The capabilities and market for mobile technologies have grown rapidly in the last decade. Despite this growth, the rate of mobile technology usage in traditional retail is quite low. The rapid spread of supermarkets, which are the context of traditional shopping, has brought with it increased product options and larger supermarkets. This study deals with the facilitating customers' access to the products they want to buy and supporting their decision-making processes. An Android-based mobile application was developed for consumers to use during traditional shopping. The Bluetooth Beacon technology and versatile algorithms were used to optimize the process of accessing the products in the grocery store. The utilization of Bluetooth Beacon technology was employed to map the inside of the grocery store and create a route for preferred products. Augmented Reality technology was integrated to increase the user experience of consumers in the navigation process. QR Code technology and Augmented Reality were used together for detailed viewing and filtering of the products on the shelves. In this way, more ideal outputs were obtained from the scanning and filtering processes to be performed by the human eye. It was ensured that the processes of the consumers in the grocery stores were made more optimal by considering their consumption or economic sensitivities. By using the preferences and route information of the consumers in the shopping process, data that will appeal to the business intelligence units of the grocery stores is obtained.
