Design and Testing a Lightweight Electric Trike with Triple Hybrid Power Sources

This paper proposes a novel design of a lightweight electric trike vehicle which is a low-speed stainless steel flywheel energy storage (FES), Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and a lithium battery pack as multiple power sources combined. For the design, a 48 Volt, 500-Watt BLDC electric motor, based on the hall sensor throttle and controller been used. The Hydrogen used has 99,99% purity, and a variety of H2 pressure from 10-35 psi is used. The prototype trike has been built, tested on a dynamometer, and analyzed. The test result shows that the designated flywheel can improve the performance of the vehicle as well as optimize fuel cells to supply power traction and longer journey.
