Islanding mode operation of a PV supplied network in the presence of G59 protection

Enabling Islanding mode operation, even when a G59 relay is deployed is proposed in this research for a PV supplied electrical network. The concept of Islanding may contribute to solving power availability and quality issues. In this research it is proposed to enhance the electrical system, by allowing island mode operation during heavy external load conditions or when the grid is unavailable. This will enable the continuous supply of current under blackout conditions and enhance voltage quality for sensitive loads without effecting existing G59 protection. German Jordanian University’s electrical network that includes a 2 MWp PV system is modelled and simulated in ETAP to validate the approach.
