Mechanical Gate in a Nonlinear Gyroscopic Lattice

In this study, we consider a nonlinear one-dimensional lattice that transmits only tensile waves and sustains solitary waves. The introduction of a gyroscopic effect, through the action of a spinner attached at the central node, leads to the possibility to actively tune the transmision and/or reflection. A numerical solution derived from an algorithm implemented in matlab shows the tunability of the gyroscopic “gate”.
