Control System Design for a Polishing Machine on Sapphire Flat

In order to realize the polishing automation for sapphire flat, a control system based on motion control was designed in terms of the actual polishing working principle. The system was composed of the motion control module, the display module, the trajectory module and the vibration module. The motion control module was mainly consisted of the motion control card GTS400 and an industrial computer to realize polishing trajectory planning and spindle speed adjustment. The display module utilized the display screen L530TM to display status messages and received user parameter inputs. The trajectory module was composed of servo motors, cylinders and the grinding head components which received the commands from the controller to realize trajectories of the polishing procedure. The vibration module included the inverter, the asynchronous motor and the high-speed components to generate the high-speed vibration. The experiment results show that the system improves the efficiency of sapphire polishing, meets the actual manufacturing requirements and saves the cost.
