Research on Energy Storage Planning for Provincial Power Grids Integrated with High Penetration Renewable Energy

With the construction of a new type power system in China, the large-scale development of renewable energy will cause serious power and electricity balance problems and renewable energy curtailment. It can significantly reduce renewable energy curtailment and mitigate power shortage with configuring a certain scale of energy storage system (ESS). In this paper, a collaborative energy storage planning method for provincial power grids considering the difference of multi sub-regions objectives is studied based on the time series production simulation method. Firstly, the algorithm framework of the mainstream time series production simulation software considering power system structure and tie-line tradition constraints is introduced. Then based on this software, the configuration capacity optimization method of ESS in each sub-region is proposed taking the differences in the assessment expectations of the sub-regions into account. Finally, a planned provincial power grid integrated with high penetration renewable energy in northwest China is carried out as a case study, which verifies its rationality and utility.
