Effects of Broken Strands and Water Droplets on Electric Field Distribution Surrounding the Train Roof Strands

Layer stranded wires connected to the roof equipment of high-speed trains may be broken due to electrical stress and mechanical stress. Hanging water droplets at the end of the broken strand will aggravate the distortion of the local electric field and increase the number of broken strands caused by local corona discharge. These problems will threaten the normal power supply of the train. Consequently, the layered stranded model including water droplets and stranded wires was built. At the same time, the influence of the number of broken strands and the number of water droplets attached to the broken strands on the distribution characteristics of the electric field in the nearby air domain are analyzed by the simulation. The result shows the distortion rate of the surface electric field intensity, at the broken strand of the strand, increases with the increase of the number of broken strands, and the presence of water droplets will aggravate the electric field distortion around the broken strand. When three drops of water are attached, the maximum surface electric field intensity is as high as 231MV/m. The simulation results can provide a reference for the optimal design of the subsequent strands design.
