Research on Selection and Application Strategies of Intelligent Power Module based on Failure Mechanisms

Intelligent power module plays an important role in the reliability of the whole machine. The study firstly summarized the main failure mechanisms of intelligent power module and showed the typical failure morphologies. Then the study analyzed the failure mechanisms distribution of failed intelligent power module in the market. Based on the data analysis, the reliability strategies were proposed from selection and application. The selection strategies included selection of protection function in intelligent power module, use of preferred library and selection of supplier. The application strategies included derating design, heat dissipation design and peripheral protective circuits design. By these strategies, it can reduce the most failures of intelligent power module in the whole machine from the aspects of intelligent power module itself and circuit application.
